Are There Side Effects to Sedation Dentistry?

1In our last blog post, we described some of the many types of sedation dentistry options available at Fulbright Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry that can relieve you of dental anxiety and give you a more relaxing treatment. While many patients do not experience major side effects associated with sedation dentistry, there are some important things to be aware of if you are considering it.

With oral conscious sedation, IV sedation, and nitrous oxide, patients must be free of certain health conditions in order to receive them during treatment. Dr. Michael Fulbright will talk with you about your medical history and determine if one of these techniques is right for your needs. Patients who are candidates for oral conscious or IV sedation during treatment should plan to have someone drive them to and from the office for the procedure, since they will be very groggy and tired afterward. With that in mind, one of the positive side effects of these two techniques is that they typically have an amnesic result – patients likely won’t remember the procedure taking place!

All of our sedation dentistry options are designed to help you relax during your procedure and attain a more comfortable, even pleasant experience. Please don’t let dental anxiety keep you from getting dental treatment – it’s just not worth letting small problems become much worse. With sedation dentistry, we can improve the health of your teeth and gums comfortably and painlessly!
