Dr. Michael Fulbright recently presented a porcelain dental veneers case representing the “California Smile” in the widely read journal, Quintessence of Dental Technology.

Redondo Beach, CA – A prominent Redondo Beach cosmetic dentist recently had the results of one of his cases presented in QDT (Quintessence of Dental Technology), one of the largest and most widely read publishers of dental journals, texts, and multimedia in the world. Dr. Michael Fulbright of Fulbright  Cosmetic & Reconstructive Dentistry says it’s an honor to have his work and the work of his team, including laboratory technician Sam Lee, presented in such a prestigious publication that is known throughout the dental field as one of the leading resources for learning about advanced dental techniques.

The case presented in the journal involved porcelain dental veneers, a popular procedure designed to mask the effects of chips, gaps, discolorations, and other common concerns utilizing a custom-designed porcelain shell created to look like a natural tooth. Lee says the case presented a particular challenge for all involved, but that its success can help dental professionals and others open their minds to the enormous possibilities that can be achieved: “As patients’ demands gravitate towards brighter, cleaner teeth, it is increasingly difficult to provide a natural appearance for bright, white teeth. At the same time, it was hard to design a symmetrical, modern shape that harmonized with the natural teeth. However, through this feature, I believe this case shows how to approach artistic factors such as shaping, color, and translucency.”

The case represents Dr. Fulbright’s attempt at creating the “California Smile,” a term coined by Lee which involves a combination of traits to strive for when performing porcelain veneers treatment. These traits include a natural appearance, a strong balance and symmetry, a modern design, nice translucency, and a good blend with teeth that have been bleached. Lee says the case was ultimately selected for publication in QDT because of its successful representation of the “California Smile” – results that are inspired by the authentic Southern Californian lifestyle and that do not appear artificial.

Dr. Fulbright says he is proud that this unique porcelain veneers case is being featured in such a prestigious dental publication. He notes that the field of cosmetic dentistry continues to progress, with new and exciting technologies and techniques becoming available every year that can give patients results that look natural and provide them with new reasons to smile.
